Twitter Talks
July 28, 2008
There’s been a lot of talk about Twitter lately. Actually, it seems all social networking sites are gaining more popularity as the use of MySpace and Facebook are becoming more mainstream and not just for the kids anymore…but I’ve seen Twitter use increase.
I believe Twitter is quickly becoming a combination of Instant Messaging, Forums and Public Chat Rooms. When it was first started it was more of a “What are you doing now?” tool similar to Facebook’s status update.
I’m now seeing business saavy people using Twitter to market products, bring awareness to websites, open up discussions, break news etc. I believe it was Joel Comm that coined the term “TNN” or Twitter News Network and it is very true. I find some great information just by reading the Tweets in my dashboard each morning.
So whats next for Twitter? Good question. Joel Comm has posted some comments on his blog about how others would monetize Twitter if they owned it. I personally would add a TwitterSearch function that would allow for users to search all public Tweets. The search results could display context related ads.
Another idea would be to create a TwitterPro version for a low monthly fee. That would allow your Twitter Syndication to allow a signature and some other marketing type features.

Got something to say?

Agree that watching Twitter evolve is good sport. Good for finding new friends and contacts today, getting better for business all the time. As Joel suggested, it does seem to be rapidly headed toward commercialization, too.
Lots of ways to make money there for sure.
Tweet you later.
Twitter’s popularity is growing rapidly. I think a huge reason for this is because it allows you to tweet by using your cell phone. Convenience is crucial.
I’ll go get a “sneaktweet” right now.

I dissagree with making a TwitterPro version for a low monthly fee, leave it alone, its doing fine on its own.Its helping plenty of ‘newbies’ who are coming onto the market scene, they need this free resource, and any others for that matter. I wish , Im sure like many other marketers that this was about when I started out in this business..
I pay a fee at places like MyBlogLog. Twitter would be no problem.
Jeff,
I do believe if Twitter do not monetize some time soon they will crack, unless they already have a way to raise money.
Who knows, maybe they really are just waiting to be bought by someone else, maybe you or myself can make an offer and find out, lol.
Hey, thanks for following me on twitter, I am following you too now, its really an awesome platform. I would also pay to use the service, it used to its full potential, it can be a ‘priceless’ tool.
Bye for now
